Factors Influencing on the depression for the aged patients with spinal cord injury

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for nursing intervention to reduce depression by indentifying the influencing factors on depression of the aged patients with spinal cord injury(SCI) The data was collected using self-reported questionnaires from may 13 through Dec 7, 2008. Atotal of 51 questionnaires were analysed. The instrument was used to measure depression, patient adherence, self-efficacy, social support, patient -provider relationship, rehabilitation knowledge, powerlessness and economic status. Using spss win 10.0, descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, pearsons correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple repression analysis was conducted.The results of the study are as follows, 1. The mean of depression score was 30.5(16.9), higher than score of hypertensive patient, 17.3 2. The difference for the depression score was significantly associated with the modification of dailty living modalities. Siqnicant correlations was found between the depression and social support(r=-.0254), patient adherence(r=-.078), partient- provider relationship (r=-.852), powerlessness(r=.408). These 4 variables that can predict the depression accounted for 25.49% and powerlessness was the most predictable variable. To reduce depression of aged SCI patients, must censider developing the strategy for reducing powerlessness and enhancing social support, patient adherence and patient-provider relationship.
